Our team had the honor of assisting with the Affair on Caroline last October, and we must say that it was one of those events that you will remember forever! The Affair on Caroline was a fundraiser for the Fredericksburg Main Street Association to raise money to help the community with special improvement projects and other events. The Fredericksburg Main Street Association is a community organization that works with the businesses and community members in Downtown Fredericksburg to help the city thrive.
The Affair on Caroline was an al fresco community dining experience for 250 guests put together by a variety of chefs in downtown Fredericksburg on a block of the main street that runs through the downtown: Caroline Street. We blocked off the entire 1000 block of Caroline Street, a portion of the sidewalks, and set up a long row of tables down the center. We blocked off the actual street with a trolley at one end, and a dumpster filled with sand at the other (for safety!). Then, three hours before the event was to begin, the rental company – Classic Party Rentals VA – pulled up and began to unload everything. A team of volunteers set out setting up rows and rows of tables, meticulously making sure that they were straight and in line with the street. After everything was straight, we set out to set up each centerpiece, place setting, and chair. We made sure everything was absolutely perfect, with the chairs out just enough, and the swag bags hanging from the chairs.
Every place setting received a box of chocolates, a locally crafted artisan mug for water, and a welcome letter and menu, as well as a swag bag filled with goodies from local businesses. The community, full of volunteers that were residents, business owners, and even a city council member all came together to work hard and make this event come together seamlessly.
We had the very best team of vendors, too! Kerry Mulhern of Kerry Renee Photography took the beautiful shots, and Rachel of Racheal Lauren Videography took amazing videography, and Jon Sims of Wonder shot a timelapse of the event.
Each course was carefully selected and hand-picked by each chef that was preparing them. The first course was the appetizer prepared by Chef Blake of Vivify. It’s pictured to the right and boy was it delicious! The second course was the salad course by the Kenmore Inn. The Kenmore Inn is one of our absolute favorite event venues here in town, and they prepared an amazing salad with the dressing from Taste Oil & Vinegar. The third course was the pasta, prepared by Orofino Restaurant, who worked with the Butcher Shop. This dish featured handmade pasta and fresh Italian sausage in a light cream sauce. The fourth and fifth courses were the fish and meat courses prepared by the Confident Rabbit. The Confident Rabbit took the lead in organizing the event and prepared one of the bars.
The drink menu was created by the Confident Rabbit, and the three major alcohol bars were staffed by the CR team as well as Anker Mobile Bartending, Spencer Devon Brewing, and none other than one of our planners, Melanie! The coffee, tea, and cider bar menus were crafted by Katora Coffee and Xquisit Coffee Roasters.
Before the event, there was a sponsor cocktail hour hosted at Fraser Wood Elements. The oysters were sourced from local Rappahannock Oyster farms, and the event was styled and designed by Emily Webb of Vagabond.
This event was one for the books. We absolutely loved working with the team, and the event production was flawless.
