Danilo and Alona of Orofino approached 718 Venue to host a chef dinner to celebrate the traditional American-Italian feast of the Seven Fishes. The Feast of the Seven Fishes originates back to southern Italy, where it commemorates the wait Christmas and the birth of Jesus. In the Catholic faith, it is tradition to not eat meat the day before a feast day, and so Italians ate fish fried in oil with no meat or animal fat.
The Orofino family owns Orofino Restaurant, an Italian restaurant in Downtown Fredericksburg. They are known for their traditional Italian food, as well as for delicious gelato and desserts. They host monthly wine dinners, and for this event, they wanted to have something bigger.
The traditional Italian Christmas feast was designed and planned over here at Happy to Be Events, with the help of Jean from the Floral Palette, and oh my gosh did we have such fun designing this event! We worked with the vendor team to create a stunning tablescape for all of the guests, one that had elements of the wintry weather this time of year, and the modern venue we were in. Danilo and the chef worked to create a beautiful menu that was as delicious as it was creative!

Orofino teamed up with Barboursville Winery to pair a different wine with each course, and each guest that came was able to take home wine glass. The Barboursville team was on sight that evening to guide the guests on a wine tasting with each course and type of fish. With each course, the team guided the guests through defining the wine with the palette.
