Hi Bees! Meg here. Welcome to our Featured Vendors segment, where we feature a new vendor every week. These are vendors that we love, love, love working with for every wedding or project we work on together! A fewMondays ago, I sat down with Chelsea of Rowland’s Photography. We chatted about life as a wedding photographer and got all the deets on their business. Scroll down to read up on this fantastic team, then head over to their social media and give them a like and a follow!
Michael and Chelsea are a spunky, hilarious, down to earth Hampton Roads, VA-based husband and wife photography team that love, love, love shooting, well, love. They have been photographing weddings since 2014 – that is 5 wedding seasons, guys! They have been photographing since they were teenagers – it’s how they met!
They specialize in natural light photography, and in capturing images for a couple’s biggest day.
Michael and Chelsea met when they were shooting photos at a concert. They met eyes, and as Chelsea put it, she felt like he smiled at her like he already knew her. Then…she found out that he was 17 to her 19, and that was that.
Until he met her on…. MYSPACE!
Well, days turned to weeks, weeks to months, months to years, and before they knew it, they had fallen in love. They bonded over their passion for Christ and their love for photography, and they have created a marriage that is strong and full of joy.
Since they had been photographing for years, slipping into weddings seemed natural. They never felt comfortable taking on that high of an honor by themselves, however, so they always said no. After they got married, a friend approached them for help: they were looking for a photographer and Chelsea and Michael seemed like a perfect fit.
After the first three weddings they did, they were hooked. The opportunity to pour love into their couples, shoot their wedding, and see them grow into marriage was a perfect fit for the two of them. Now, weddings are second nature, from the timeline to the details, they know weddings like the back of their hands.
Fun fact: before they shot as a team, they shot as second shooters for other photographers, gaining the experience necessary to break off on their own.
When I asked Chelsea what her favorite part of the wedding day was, I could feel – not hear, feel!! – her light up with her joy. Her favorite part of the wedding day is the moment when the bride is walking down the aisle and the groom sees her. She is shooting the bride and has to get close to the wedding party to do so. She can feel the excitement, the love, the happiness bubbling up inside the groom. That moment, the emotion, the feelings…that is what a wedding day is all about.
Her second favorite moment is the first look. The period of time that a couple gets just to themselves is priceless, and being there to capture the raw, romantic happiness that the couple experiences make her day. Also, if you are undecided on the benefits of a first look, check out this blog post they did all about the benefits of a first look here.
